Day 3

"Jumping Ahead!"

Exodus 2:11-15

When we were in South Bend, IN
in the early 1990s, planting a
church, we needed God's help,
planning, and timing for everything.
We didn't have much money and
almost none for church resources.
I remember making a list of needs and watching
God meet those needs one by one.
Things to take care of our household chores -
especially lawn care, homeschool curriculum,
and equipment for the church and
kids club that met in our house.

Unexplained money came in the mail! A phone
call alerted me to an unbelievably good
deal on a used TV, VCR, and some lawn
care tools. I “happened” onto a
“scratch and dent sale” and bought a
brand-new, undamaged utility cart for
less than half price, which is still
being used at church 36 years later!

Only once did I jump ahead of God and
go looking for something on the list.
I bought a used lawnmower that I knew
would cost a little more to fix.
Just a few days later a phone
caller offered to give me his mower!
I passed the other one on to another
pastor who needed one, but had I waited
just a few days longer, I would have
gotten the better mower at no cost!

It pays to wait on God's timing.
Moses didn't wait and not only lost
respect from some of his people
but had to run for his life!
Years later God turned it all around,
but it is always still best if we can keep
ourselves from jumping ahead of God's timing.

Pray and trust and wait for clarity before moving on!

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us with patience.
Patience really means trusting You
and Your timing, and we need to do that!

P.S. In the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea,
Jurgen Hingson was competing for his
last chance at a gold medal. He knew he
would be too old to really compete at the next Olympics.
He had entered the decathlon competition
and had to run the 100-meter race.
Sadly, he made two false starts for the sprint.
With two false starts you are out of the competition.
He never got another chance at
Olympic gold because he jumped the gun!
